Defining your ideal target segment is a critical step in maximizing the effectiveness of your program or product. By focusing on the best fit customers based on key attributes, you can tailor your offering, messaging and outreach for optimal results. The BlastPoint platform makes it easy to create targeted segments using demographic, psychographic and behavioral data.

Step 1:
You’re looking to determine who is the best fit for your program or product. Before engaging with the platform, take a couple of minutes to think about the type of person that is a best fit. Do they care about being “green?” Does someone with an affinity for technology represent a good match? Does your program / product work best for someone who lives in a single family home or requires home ownership? Are there income considerations?
For this example - we’re going to create a target program / product segment using these attributes:
- Single family home
- High green propensity score (greater than or equal to 7)
- High income (150k+)
- High tech propensity score (greater than or equal to 7)
Step 2:
To get started, click the "Create Segment" button on the BlastPoint dashboard. This will open the segment creation interface where you can define the parameters of your ideal customer profile.
Give your segment a clear, descriptive name that reflects the key attributes you are focusing on.
Example: "High-income Green Tech Homeowners". This will make it easy to identify and reference this segment going forward.
Using the demographic, psychographic and behavioral filters available in BlastPoint, add the rules that define your target segment.
Step 3:
Once you have added your rules, check the resulting segment size and assess whether it is sizable enough to be valuable as a target market, yet specific enough to allow for tailored outreach. You can use the "Edit Segment" feature to refine your rules to achieve this balance.
